Today I stumbled across a post on Quora where someone asked if it is possible to block users from specific countries from viewing Ln profile. That woke up my curiosity and I started my quick research.

I found other posts (on stackexhcnage and other sites) where users were asking if it’s possible to allow only people from ceratin countries to view their profiles.

The reason turned to be pretty simple:

“It is frustrates to go through tons of irrelevant contact requests only to check if there is someone genuine among them”.

So, people are willing to connect with someone they know or someone who is genuine.

Indeed, from time to time I get connection requests from random people too, and after I approve it, people either keep silent or start sending me spam dms without even knowing who I am and if I need their services.

Often other situations happen: I send a connection request, it gets approved, I send a message (just a message, not a pitch, just something like “Hi, how are you? I saw your post and it’s quite helpful”), and… no response. Even no mark that the message was read (maybe it’s hidden, but still, I get no reaction at all).

So it looks like the epoch of cold connection comes to an end. No, of course, it’s a game of numbers. But in general, those youtube videos where we’re advised to send connection requests are not that relevant.

The conclusion is simple: interact with people, and let them know about you before sending a connection request. Yes, you’re likely to get fewer connections and you get in front of fewer people, but it’s better to get 10 people whom you can really send a message than have 100 people who will just hang in the connection list and won’t see your posts and messages.
